Legal Bureau Omega participated in the discussion "AI +/- COPYRIGHT. Copyright protection in the context of technology development"
As part of the Non-fictioN Intellectual Literature Fair on April 10, 2025, a discussion about "AI +/-COPYRIGHT. Copyright protection in the context of technology development" was held.
Gennady Uvarkin, CEO Director of the Omega Legal Bureau, and Victoria Nagrodskaya, Adviser, made presentations on the topics "Using generative AI to create professional and amateur content: features and legal problems" and "Practical issues of using artificial intelligence in the publishing business". Omega Legal Bureau experts discussed the key principles and rules that must be followed for the safe and ethical use of technology.
In particular, the participants highlighted certain principles of using AI.
The participants emphasized that AI should not replace journalists and authors in the process of collecting, evaluating and systematizing facts. Technology should serve as a tool for improving work efficiency, but it cannot completely replace human intelligence and critical thinking. An important aspect of the discussion was the existence of a clear agreement with the developers of AI systems. All output generated by AI must be checked for authenticity. The participants agreed that any content created by AI is unverified source material and requires additional verification.
Experts from the Omega Legal Bureau also called for the abandonment of the use of deepfakes and technologies for changing photo, video and audio content in the media in order to maintain trust in information. The participants emphasized that it is unacceptable to enter confidential information or personal data into AI tools. Experts discussed the need to check incoming material for AI-generated content, including reverse image search to determine their source.
An important aspect of the discussion was the formulation of the Rules for the use of AI in the editorial office: AI can be used to search for information, but the results require mandatory verification by editors. The use of AI is acceptable for experimenting with headlines and creating short summaries of materials. Data analysis using AI should also be checked by the editor to avoid errors and inaccurate information. The use of illustrations must comply with the internal policy of the publication. It is impossible to rely solely on AI for fact-checking; this process requires human participation and verification. During the discussion, Gennady Uvarkin and Victoria Nagrodskaya discussed and highlighted all important ethical and practical aspects of the introduction of AI in the field of printing and book publishing, emphasizing the need to adhere to high standards of quality and reliability of information.
